When you were little have you ever been afraid of a monster in your closet, or a dummy under you bed, or little dolls following you. Well if you were, Ill tell you what I was afraid of when I was a little, if you promise not to tell anybody and not read this out loud, somebody might hear you, somebody like the girl who screamed.
The girl who screamed was beautiful and sweet, but one day when she saw it she screamed she was never the same again, she turned cold and ugly, she never talked to anybody again, for fear that it might hear her, nobody really knew what happened until one day she realized she couldnt keep quiet forever.
She screamed and cried but No one understood her, but me. She was screaming about The Paper Man, I know ridiculous name huh? But The Paper Man was ugly and cruel and didnt like to hear you scream if you looked at him, but sometimes it was just hard for people who were afraid of Monsters, Dummys or dolls and dont get me wrong Im afraid too.
The story of The Paper Man is a long story but in the end he was cut into pieces by his own pair of scissors. Nobody knew who did it, or if it was himself, I never knew that I was the one that was going to find out.
It was one day on Halloween night when the leaves had all ready fallen and rustling the cement pavement. I was too old to go trick or treating or at least I thought, I wish I could go back on that day and go with my family and friends, for I ran into The Paper Mans killer.
I was in front of my stove making spaghetti just for myself since I was home all alone. I was stirring it when the Phone rang and I picked it up. Hello? I said. I heard some heavy breathing and then someone said Do you want to play with scissors? I slammed the phone down and went back to my spaghetti figuring it was some stupid group of teenagers pranking people.

Then the Phone rang again. I was getting sick and tired of these sick jokes. I was fifteen at the time and was very mature. The only thing I was afraid was The Paper Mans killer. Then I picked it up again. Do you want to play a game? The voice said. It was deep and creepy. This time I didnt hang up I was going to see what this guy was up to. Sure on one condition. I said scared but excited at the same time. Yes? the voice asked. Who are you? I asked getting impatient.
If I told you Id have to kill you. The voice said. Okay creep, call here again and Im going to call the police! I say half yelling half trying to stay calm. Then I slammed the phone down again. I put the spaghetti in a Drainer and got the sauce out and put it on the can-opener. Then the phone rang again and you didnt answer that time.
OkayCreepy Weirdo. Im talking to myself now, great. The T.V that was going on in the in the living room I could no longer hear. I crept over there and tried to press the power button but It didnt work, I looked at the back of it maybe it was unplugged or something. Yeah, something the wires were all burnt and sparking. Okay, that is scary. First the scary phone calls now this. What is next, that very moment that I was thinking that. Banging on the window. I flipped around and all I got was a glimpse of a guy with long greasy black hair and the palest face I ever saw then the TV turned on again. I checked the back and there were no more sparking plugs or burning wires.
I blinked just to make sure I was really awake. I ran over to the phone to check the Caller I-D just to make sure that the people who called really called last person who called was 1-000-000-000. Okay well at least its not just my imagination. But that number creeped me out I ran around all the rooms and doors and make sure they were locked.
I tried to fall asleep on the couch about squeezing my cat to death. Then more banging on the window. I looked up and seen the creep guy with the greasy hair, and the pale face and he was waving at me. I jumped up, struggled to the kitchen and grabbed the first knife I saw, I grabbed the phone and picked it up and there was a dial tone, and the another, another, Hello operator, if you have a I slammed it down. I was just freaking out.
Then the doorbell rings. I get up very slowly. Look out my blinds and there are little kids in costumes. Oh my gosh. I answered the door, Trick or Treats filled my living room and it sounded like it echoed in my brain because I felt like throwing up or passing out. Then I see the guy with the greasy hair and pale face was on the sidewalk waving at me.
I shut the door making sure the little kids got safely across the parking lot by the guy and then the guy says Hey I need to talk to you. I ran back in the house slamming the door shut and running for my life to my bedroom. Then I remembered I didnt lock the door. But I didnt hear him coming in or anything so I think Ill be okay. Then I see shadows all shadows surround me and something grabs me. A hand. I started to feel it. Hard and rough a guys hand.
I hit and kicked and clawed but nothing was working. He still had a tight grip on my mouth. I asked you do you want to play with scissors? The only thing I didnt do was scream. Yes, I was scared but I wouldnt scream. He picked me up and threw me across the room. Pulling out razor sharp silver scissors. What do you want I cried.
I want to know if you know that The Paper Man is still alive. And hes here. Right now. In this room. Did you know? he asked.
No I said in sort of a squeak. Well all that survives of him is shadows but hes out to get you because youre the only one that knows how to understand the girl who screams and he wants to know why. He says very fast but slow enough for me to understand. Well I dont know. Tell him that! I said calm. Silly little girl I cannot talk to The Paper Man! He yells. Then how do you know if hes still alive? I asked. Very creeped out and scared right now. If I told you Id have to kill you. He says with a smirk on his face. But if you must know I am the one that killed him! I couldnt help it he came at me with these because I looked at his hideous ugly face and screamed. When he said with these he held up the shiny silver scissors. He wants me to finish what he has started with everybody that screamed when they looked at him he just couldnt take it
But I havent screamed! I said/yelled. Yes indeed. But I must ask why did you know what the girl who screamed was saying? he asked me. I dont know tears were now streaming down my face. I was crying how wimpy. Okay I believe you but The Paper Man wouldnt have taken it so lightlyjust some advicenever follow the shadows. He said and you stopped crying. And he left. Left me alone. Then the light shut off shadows hands came around me. Choked me.

I woke up to a monitor beeping. There was something in my arm and I moved and it stung so badly. I yelped out in pain. Then I noticed my mother that was asleep beside me holding my hand woken when I jerked in pain. Oh my gosh.are you okay? she asks me. I think so what happened? I asked only remembering a guy with greasy hair and a pale face and shiny scissors.

But it was a guy with short brown hair that was holding the scissors. Not the greasy haired man, he was the one that was waving.
We dont know sweetie we found these on your bed and you were knocked out on the floor. She was holding up the pair of silver shiny scissors and it all came back to me like a flood. Oh my. Mom hes back The Paper Man. Mom I seen him. I said panic in my voice. No that can not be they buried his piecesin the ground along with these. Once again she held up the scissors.
You didnt know what to do. But the nurse came in the room. Im sorry Mrs. I am going to have to ask you to leave. I need to ask her a few questions. My mom got up and left still dumbstruck of my good news.
Miss are you feeling all right? she asks and I try to act calm, and normal. Yes Im better thank you. You say trying to be polite. What is the last thing that you remember? she asks. I thought long and hard. And a picture of a shadow of a hand popped in you head. A shadow. I say breathing. What kind of a shadow? she asks acting impatient. A shadow of a hand. I say. Thats it? she asks. Yes thats it! I say acting like a little brat.
Then the door flies open and your best friend comes in. Oh my gosh your okay! she says hugging me and the nurse gives her a dirty look. But knowing her she wont care. I tried calling you. The calls came back to me. Oh! Nurse I remember somebody calling me three times in a row the phone rang! But the last time it must have been you but I didnt answer it cause I thought it was going to be some other weirdo. I say fast.
Oh yes I wanted to ask if you wanted to come to a party with me. She said. A party? I ask annoyed. Yes and then I came to your house later with Charlie but you werent there. Oh my gosh it was Charlie. Doesnt he have short brown hair? I ask. Yes he does. She was acting nervous and strange. Oh my gosh it was you. You thought it be funny to pull a prank on me with him didnt you? I asked hardness in my voice. Yes it was just a prank She said tears streaming down her face. Well thanks to you I believed him thanks to you know I have this. There was a cut a deep cut with stitches on it on my wrist I didnt know how it got there I couldnt remember. oh my how could you do this cut yourself and then it came back to you there were a group of girls and She was there laughing and Charlie was in front of you with the Scissors cutting your wrist. They mustve been drunk or something.

How could you just sit there and lie I remember it dont act dumb! You and Charlie did this! And then she screamed and she screamed and screamed it echoed through my mind and I couldnt take it the scissors were right there. But I couldnt do anything you would pay her back later. SHUT-UP! I yelled and she shut her mouth and ran out the door.
The nurse and your mother came running back in. The scissors were in my hand and I was crying.

Later that day after a ton of questioning they released me. I was home sitting on the couch watching TV. What is wrong with me? I felt like cutting her up into little pieces just like The Paper Man was killed. But you were still really mad at her and you could never forgive her for scarring you for the rest of your life. Halloween used to be my favorite holiday and now Im going to be frightened like a little kid because just one silly prank go to me, but it wasnt silly at all it traumatized me and now I wanted to be just like The Paper Man cause now I just cant take any screaming. It reminds me of her and what shes done to me. Now is time for her little prank from me.
Late that night I waited for everyone to fall to sleep and then I crept out to find her and I had the scissors in my hoodie. She was out late at night walking her dog. I waited until she went into the woods. Then I got her. I didnt know what to do but I stabbed her, stabbed her with thee scissors and scarred her. No, I didnt kill her but I scarred her just like she did me. But Charlies story is a different story he was cut up into little pieces just like The Paper Man was but then I realized now, I am The Paper Man. She never told anyone what I did to her. But then I saw the shadows. The shadows chased me all the way home. But thats not going to change me now. Some memories I received and the girl who screamed that was another memory she told me she wanted The Paper Man dead so I did it. With his own pair of scissors but all he seen of me was my shadow. When I got home the Greasy haired, pale faced man was in front of my gate on the sidewalk and he looked at me and waved. Then I realized the only thing that The Paper Man was afraid of was shadows.
