This image is in the public domain to the best of leinad's knowledge. I would think that this particular historic photograph would need no explanation. However for the sake of the young people of today, and in memory of all those who served in that most titanic of struggles against tyranny of the previous (twentieth) century - a brief caption: The raising of the 'second' flag on Iwo Jima's Mount Suribachi, February 23, 1945 - original photograph by Joe Rosenthal (Oct. 1911 - Aug. 2006). Except for my re-sizing of this image to incorporate a frame, and also my 'filling in' of one large scratch in the upper right-hand corner... this image is an 'unaltered' photograph - Leinad - May 21, 2008 - Upload NO. 22
