| This image was uploaded by leinad. This GIF image was made from two separate, and originally large (2048 by 2048 pixels), JPEG 'composite' images I downloaded from a NASA website (earthobservatory) way back in 2002. I created this image as a GIF file (in early 2004) deliberately so as to make the surrounding empty 'space' transparent. Thus this image 'works' best on a web-page using dark background color(s) and/or background image. FYI - the six year old link (Blue Marble) to the NASA 'page' where I found the original image files is now defunct (a 'broken' hyperlink). I've endeavored recently to find the original JPEG files at NASA's huge multi-domain site(s) but, so far, have not been successful.
